Davila was shot while walking with a friend in the 1100 block of West Pine Street by a man driving a white Suburban, said police Cpl Anthony Bertagna.
The driver asked the boys about their gang affiliation, he said. After the boy and his friend shouted their gang affiliation the driver shot Davila in the head and tried to chase down his friend, but missed twice and drove off.
Davila's death marks the third gang-related homicide in Santa Ana this year. The city has been struggling with a rash of gang-related violence this month, including a homicide last weekend.

Two gang members have been charged with murdering Jose Felix Nieto-Bautista, according to court records. Nieto-Bautista who has no gang ties, was shot in the neck just before 2:30 a.m. May 23 while fighting with the group of gang members, Bertagna said. He jumped in the driver's side of his car and drove off, but hit several parked cars and died. His passenger was not hurt
